<p>On March 20-23, Nicolai Steinø held a parametric urban design workshop in Bucharest, Romania, by invitation from the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism. <p>On May 9-10, 2014, Nicolai Steinø was invited to give a parametric urban design workshop to students attending the <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.architektura.pb.edu.pl/konferencja/index.php/workshops" target="_blank">eCAADe International Workshop and Regional Conference</a></span> at Bialystok University of Technology, Poland. At the end of the workshop, the results of the efforts of the students – most of whom had never written a design script before – were combined into this little animation.</p>

<p>The article entitled &#8220;Using Parametrics to Facilitate Collaborative Urban Design: An Attempt to Overcome some Inherent Dilemmas&#8221;, was presented at the research conference &#8220;Cities to be Tamed?&#8221; at Politecnico di Milano in November 2012.</p>

<p>Nicolai Steinø, MA Arch, PhD, GDBA, is an associate professor at Aalborg University where he works with CityEngine in his research and teaching. He explores the software&#8217;s potential in relation to communicative design processes.</p>
<p>Visualization of spatio-architectural aspects of urban space and scenario building are both central elements of user participation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Until now, these elements have been partially adversary, as well as time and resource demanding. With dynamic design tools like CityEngine, it is possible to visualize different scenarios in real time, thus significantly improving communicative design processes.</p>
<p>The other speaker at the seminar is Gert van Maren from ESRI&#8217;s R&amp;D 3D team in Zürich.</p>
